C,D: The inward rectifier Kir6.1 is detected as a maternal message in the animal half of vegetal cells during cleavage (arrowheads). E: It is expressed in the neural tissues at somite stages but is also detected in the posterior gut (arrowheads). Maternal mRNA for the inward rectifier channel Girk1 (Kir3.1) is localized in the middle of animal cells during cleavage (arrowheads, F,G), and around the blastopore lip during gastrulation (arrowhead, H). I: Magainin mRNA is detected in the cells of the animal cap of the blastula-stage embryo (arrowheads). The K+ channel Kv1.1 can be detected by radioactive in situ hybridization in animal cells at st. 5 (arrowhead, J) and in cells undergoing ingression at the blastopore at st. 10 (K).
