Name: Dr. Jonathan S. Marchant
Position: Assistant Professor
Research Description:
Our laboratory is interested in the application of cellular imaging technologies to study how cells behave in response to stimulation. In particular, we focus on the regulation of cell activity by calcium signals evoked by the second messenger inositol trisphosphate. Such cytoplasmic calciumsignals have a complex spatial and organisation, regulating a variety of cellular activities in a manner keyed to the size, duration and location of the calcium signal. We are interested in how these signals are generated by hormones and neurotransmitters and how these signals regulate different processes inside the cell. Current projects span work in invertebrate, Xenopus and mammalian model systems using a combination of live cell imaging and molecular methods.
