Research Description:
My lab are interested in the function of nuclear proteins in cell division. In particular, we want to understand the role of the Ran GTPase in regulating the function of nuclear proteins in spindle assembly. Xenopus cell free extract are the basis for the best established biochemically accessible model system for spindle assembly. However, extracts from unfertilised eggs can be used to recapitulate the formation of M-phase spindles but also to investigate nuclear assembly and disassembly, chromatin condensation as well as cell cycle progression in general. We are using Xenopus egg extracts to learn more about nuclear proteins involved in spindle assembly, chromosome segregation and cell division.
