Position: Professor
Research Description:
Our lab is studying the molecular mechanisms that control the proliferation and differentiation of neural progenitors, focusing on the role some transcription factors in neural progenitor cell maintenance and differentiation and the generation of neuronal diversity. We use for our work the Xenopus, chicken and mouse embryo, and a range of functional assays available in those models. By gaining insight into the mechanisms driving the differentiation of neural stem cells into specific types of neurons and glial cells, we hope to help to understand neurological disorders and to devise strategies to replace lost cells in neurological diseases. Major ongoing research is on telencephalon and sensory neurogenesis. Our current research focuses on the epigenetic regulator Prdm12 in nociceptor differentiation and pain perception at adult nociceptors and of the DMRT3 and Dmrt5 zinc finger transcription factors in cerebral cortex development.
