Name: Dr. Jennifer E Bestman
Position: Assistant Professor
Research Description:
Our research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that guide the development of the visual system. We study developmental neurobiology and are interested in questions surrounding how an animal’s experience links with the molecular mechanisms of plasticity in the brain – either through control of cell proliferation and differentiation, or through the formation and strengthening of new synapses. Our principal tools are time-lapse in vivo microscopy, molecular/genetic manipulation of cell signaling, and electrophysiology. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate neurodevelopment and animal behavior.
