Name: Dr. Joshua R York
Position: Postdoctoral Fellow
Research Description:
My work involves using comparative (evolutionary) embryology to decipher the molecular, genetic, and cellular underpinnings of neural crest and blastula stem cells in vertebrates and how these critical cell types evolved in our earliest vertebrate ancestors. To this end, I study the development of neural crest and blastula stem cells in representatives from the two major lineages of vertebrates—a jawed vertebrate, the frog Xenopus laevis, and a jawless vertebrate, the sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus.
