Research Description:
Tissue repair after injury is a carefully orchestrated process, often with imperfect outcomes. Many therapeutic approaches use stem-cell derived cell populations to regenerate tissues but suffer from poor integration between new cells and existing structures, possibly due to lack of communication and coordination between those cells. Building upon principles from developmental biology, genetics, and regenerative medicine, this project aims to uncover the role of timekeeping genes in cell-cell cooperation during tissue repair and learn to modify the activity of those genes, thus establishing a new roadmap to improve tissue repair and regeneration in biomedical settings.
