The dact1 gene encodes a scaffold protein that modulates Wnt signaling pathways, including both canonical β-catenin-dependent and non-canonical Planar Cell Polarity (PCP) pathways. It is expressed in the developing embryo within structures such as the notochord, somites, neural tube, and cement gland. The dact1 protein is cytoplasmic and membrane-associated, where it interacts with Dishevelled (Dvl) to regulate Wnt-mediated processes during gastrulation, including convergent extension movements that are fundamental for axis formation. It also functions in myogenesis by influencing the differentiation of muscle precursors. [-]
